CONGENITAL CORDIACL RHABDOMYOMA

Abstract
A case of so-called congenital cardiac rhabdomyoma occurred in an one-year-old infant, who was seen at Presbyterian Hospital (Taegu), was reported. The cardiac rhabdomyoma in this case was multiple involving both ventricles and accompanied by ventricular septal defect of high membranous portion.
A review of the literature related to this case was very difficult since the cases have been scarcely reported and are often completely different disease entities, (such as rhabdomyosarcoma, botryoid sarcoma, mesenchymoma and nephroblastoma) have been included under the same diagnosis of rhabdomyoma.
It was not our purpose to define whether the lesion should belong to the hamartoma group or to the local manifestation of glycogen¢¥ storage disease. This unsettled problem might be brought to light by further histochemical studies concerning histogenesis of its glycogen and lipid content and active oxidative enzymes.
We merely used the term "rhabdomyoma" in a sense it forms tumorous nodules grossly and exhibit characteristic "spider cells" microscopically.
